Operations Manager Job Vacancy

Aug 8
3 min read

Polmonthill Community Snowsports Centre (PCSC) seeks to appoint an Operations Manager to oversee management of the facility’s day-to-day business.

First established in 1973, the snowsports centre has been under community management since October 2024.  PCSC is a charity established in 2024 by members of Polmonthill Snowsports Club specifically to navigate a Community Asset Transfer of the ski centre from the local authority and save the facility from closure.

PCSC now owns the venue and manages upkeep of the facility and delivery of the grassroots snow school activity. Polmonthill has a 90m long artificial slope and uplift tow. The Centre offers skiing and snowboarding lessons at all levels from beginners to race training. There are also regular tubing sessions and parties.

For the long-term viability of the Centre, it is required to have a professional operations manager to run the facility’s day-to-day business. To support this professionalisation, PCSC have recently been awarded funding from the SportScotland Club Support Programme to fund a part-time position for 3 years.

Strategic Priorities

The Operations Manager will focus on three core pillars:

  1. Workforce Coordination: Planning schedules for, and supporting a team of casual snowsports instructors and technicians; providing training and organising volunteer days.

  2. Compliance & Facility Oversight: Overseeing maintenance schedules and health and safety checks to ensure the facility is safe and functional.

  3. Customer Engagement & Marketing: Managing customer enquiries and bookings, updating the website and social media, monitoring and reporting on participation, and using feedback to inform service development.

Key responsibilities

The Operations Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Centre including supervising the delivery of snowsports activities, communicating with customers, managing bookings, and mentoring staff to provide an excellent snowsports experience.

The post has managerial responsibility for employees and volunteers across a range of roles including ski technicians, snowsports instructors and trainee instructors.

Responsibility for risk and safety standards as well as safeguarding and welfare will also be key to this role along with ongoing record keeping and management reporting.

PCSC are keen to increase participation in snowsports, particularly among people experiencing socio-economic disadvantage who may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate. The postholder will be responsible for data collection and reporting on participation throughout the year.

Benefits and working pattern

The Operations Manager job is advertised for 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE). The hours for this role are flexible and to be agreed with the successful candidate. It is anticipated that there will be a requirement for some evening and weekend working. Whilst it is expected that most work will be undertaken at the snowsports centre there is scope for some remote working.

Whilst this is advertised as a part-time role, there is potential to increase the hours worked, including up to a full-time position. Additional hours will be available to the successful candidate as a snowsports instructor and/or ski technician.

The operations manager will report to, and work closely with, the PCSC trustees.

The post is initially offered on a 3 year fixed-term contract. There is potential for this to be extended.

The pro rata salary is £21,000 (full-time salary £35,000) + pension contributions + 18 days annual leave (full-time leave of 30 days).
